John Nguyen, CFP®, CIMA®

Managing Partner

For almost a quarter century, John Nguyen has built a solid reputation helping local families, executives, and small businesses plan for a better tomorrow. Armed with the formidable resources of Commonwealth Financial Network® and an impressive background in business and financial planning, he's guided his clients through the most challenging economic environment in generations.

The son of Vietnamese refugees, he was raised with a keen appreciation of the opportunities the American system of free enterprise affords.

A father himself, he's focused on helping local families achieve their dreams.

And as a grateful and respected member of our community, he's determined to help make it an even better place to live and work.

A devoted family man, John and his wife, Kaci, are the proud parents of three wonderful blessings, Lilly, Hadley, and Reagan.

John Nguyen didn't learn to appreciate our free enterprise system from the pages of a book. It was ingrained in him by parents who'd seen firsthand that with hard work and integrity, every American can achieve a better future.

John's mother, Ngoc Anh Tran, and father, Nguyen Van Thoi (a South Vietnamese soldier and translator for the American military), awaited John's birth while Thoi was imprisoned at a brutal “Re-Education” camp in Communist Vietnam in the difficult days following the fall of Saigon.

Determined to give their children a better future, the Nguyen family ultimately managed to escape Communist Vietnam, resettling in Northern Virginia. His parents went on to open several well-known local restaurants including the nationally acclaimed “Nam-Viet” in Arlington and Washington, DC.

The Nguyen family imbued their children with their own love of free enterprise, hard work, thrift, and integrity—principles that guide Clarendon Wealth Management today.

Upon graduating from Mary Washington College with a major in business administration, John launched his financial career with American Express Financial Advisors.

A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, John continued his studies at the Wharton School in Philadelphia in conjunction with the Investment and Wealth Institute, becoming a Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) with advanced proficiency in portfolio management and financial planning.

He is an active member of both the Financial Planning Association and the Investment and Wealth Institute.

John is especially proud of his service to VHC Health, where he is a member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Finance Committee. John and his wife, Kaci, are active contributors to Hospital Foundations, which helps the hospital continue its delivery of quality healthcare to all Northern Virginians, regardless of their ability to pay.

An avid sportsman and fly-fisherman, he supports the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Coastal Conversation Association and Bonefish Tarpon and Trust.

Ryan McCall, CFP®

A 1998 graduate of the University of Richmond with a degree in marketing and finance, Ryan launched his financial planning career with American Express Financial Advisors in Alexandria, Virginia, shortly after graduation. Following two years of classroom and individual preparation, he earned his CFP® designation in May 2005. After a successful transition to an independent fiduciary, Ryan joined Commonwealth Financial Network® in 2006.

Ryan opened his second office in 2011, and he now maintains offices independently in Charlottesville and Arlington with Clarendon Wealth Management and the rest of his team. Ryan focuses his practice on multi-generational family planning as well as portfolio construction and asset management for accumulators and retirees.

Ryan shares his life with his wife, Shannon, and their two sons, CJ and Cade. In his spare time, Ryan enjoys hiking with his dog, Scout, and watching his boys play soccer. He loves date nights with his wife, taking CJ to Washington Capitals games, and watching Star Wars movies with Cade.

Ryan sits on the board of the Community Climate Collaborative (C3) in Charlottesville, a non-profit organization focused on fighting climate change in Albemarle County. He has also worked with various animal rescue groups such as the CASPCA and has spent time at Dogtown, America's largest animal sanctuary, in southern Utah. Ryan was selected by staff members of the sanctuary to work with one of the pit bull terriers rescued from the Michael Vick dogfighting raid.

Ryan focuses his life on conservation and environmental issues such as climate change and ocean cleanups. He and Shannon support organizations that are working to make the planet a cleaner, healthier place for their children and all animals: the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, NRDC, IFAW, 4Ocean, the MARA Elephant project as well as the Kiss the Ground Regenerative Agriculture movement.
